Before the cup
Top players do not improvise in a cup. They play one fixed spot and a strict gameplan, so these are set before your first game:
- Your spot: One spot for the whole cup, the same in every game. Gameplan and spot
- Your jump: You know where you jump for every bus path, so you decide nothing in the bus. Offspawn
- Your offspawn strat: You know what you do when one player contests your spot, and what you do against two. Offspawn
- Your loot route: Your chests and your farm route are planned and fit into the time you have until you leave. Offspawn
- Your gameplan: Two or three plans for your spot, depending on where the zone pulls. Gameplan and spot
- Your endgame mechanics: Whatever decides an endgame, like jumping into a box, works almost every time on the first try. Practice
- One goal: You take exactly one goal into the cup, from the main mistake of your last cup. How to review
Being prepared is also where your confidence comes from, see below.
Where confidence comes from
Confidence in a cup comes from preparation: a fixed spot and a fixed plan.
A fixed spot
Pick one spot, practice it all the time, find your mistakes there and fix them, instead of switching after every bad game. Gameplan and spot
A fixed plan
For your spot you have two or three plans, depending on where the zone pulls: your loot route, where you tank storm and which direction you go. Without a plan, every decision has to be made from scratch in game, and that makes it slower and worse. Gameplan and spot
The rest before the cup
Your jump, your offspawn strat and your one goal for the cup are set before the first game.
Clean kills
A kill where you lose nothing and do not get scuffed afterwards brings you points and confidence. Offspawn, your first kill brings you confidence and mats.
When you are not confident
If you started a fight and you are not confident in it, backing out is the right call. The other reasons to back out are in Take or leave.
