When to look for a refresh and when to go
1. Play your mats first
In the endgame you play your mats as long as you can and look for kills while you do. You do not jump into everything you see.
2. Look, then go
- Hard mats gone, only wood left: play the wood out and look for the refresh the whole time.
- No mats left at all: now you go for it.
3. The zone changes what low means
In Zone 8, with under about 500 mats you will not get much further, so look now for a kill you can jump instead of dying in Zone 9 without mats. In Zone 11 and 12, 400 mats are like cap mats. The same goes for what a refresh brings: 150 mats from a kill are not worth the fight in Zone 8, but in the last zone they feel like cap mats.
4. Heals count too
Good mats but no heals left and around 30 HP is the same problem. You cannot do much with 30 HP, so look for the kill. With mats and heals, focus on your position and take your time with the kill.
5. It is not over until you are dead
No mats in Zone 9 is not a problem as long as you look for a refresh and find one. You never know how many mats the other player has. If he had cap mats, that refresh might have been your game winning play.
At some point you have to get refreshes to win the game.
Looking for the kill in the endgame
When your mats run out you need a refresh. When to look and when to go is above.
- Frontside, not backside: as a rule, look for the kill frontside, ideally already inside the zone. Going backside to look for a kill makes no sense, because you get held from the front.
- Almost out of builds: do not play second height or go for highground. Play lower, because that is where the refreshes are. Up top are mostly the stacked players.
- After the refresh: grab the mats quickly and go straight back frontside. The exception is when the kill left you low. Do not Shockwave forward with 20 HP.
- A bad refresh: a player jumping around without building has no mats left. All he can drop is his siphon, about 150 mats, which is two boxes. That is usually not worth it, unless you are on zero yourself or it is already the last zone.
Refreshing in first moving
Plan your mats so your first refresh does not fall into the first moving zone. Everyone still has the most health there and the most players are still alive, so it is the hardest zone of the endgame to refresh in. With every moving zone after that, it gets easier.
If you do need it there
- 200 HP (health and shield): you can jump in.
- 150 to 170 HP: take the same fight slower. Peek, get your entry, wait, and do not jump in.
Plan it before the endgame
If you are not stacked, look for your fight between Zone 5 and Zone 9. If you can already see that you will not get stacked, ideally do it before Zone 5, unless you are playing zone. That way you do not die in Zone 8 after fifteen minutes for zero points.
