What changes in solos
Some things stay the same as in duos: you want to be deep and not edge, and you get stacked the same way. Here is what changes, with the channel where each point is explained in full.
- Picking fights: You want fewer open fights and more camping and sneak-on plays. See Take or leave.
- Someone comes at you: If you are stacked, you box up and let him come. See Take or leave.
- Keyed with low mats: You fight back instead of trying to shock away. See Take or leave.
- Entry: You hit him before you take a fight. See Entry and boxfights.
- Shocking in: In the midgame you shock in first while he does not know about you, and never once he is looking at you. See Take or leave.
- Scouting: Nobody covers you, so you scout the full 360 degrees. See Third party.
- No pre-edits: Nobody can pre-edit you in solos, which makes your scouting spot more important than your exact position. See Third party.
- Endgame: It is mostly boxing, shocking and watching who still has to rotate. See Third party.
Good habits
Habits worth building for every solo cup, each one explained in full in its channel.
- A prepared offspawn: Before the cup you know if you fight, let him come or quick loot and leave when someone lands on your spot. Offspawn
- Planning one zone ahead: You scout from your box during the current zone, so your next rotation is decided before the new zone shows. Playing zone
- Ready before the call: From Zone 4 to 7 you have your Shockwave out and your edit ready 5 seconds before the zone is called. Playing zone
- Scouting before you rotate: You look at your route and who sits around it before you go, unless the storm or a fight forces you. Rotations
- Healing before looting: After a kill you get your walls up and heal before you pick anything up, or you loot while you heal. Third party
- Mats before the kill: In the endgame you keep building and look for kills, but you only have to jump in once your mats are gone. Refresh
- One spot all cup: You land on the same spot every game, find your mistakes there and fix them. Gameplan and spot
- Reviewing after the cup: You find the zone where your HP and mats went at the same time and go back to its cause. How to review
- Practicing against better players: You play Creative against people you lose to and take what works into your own game. Practice
Bad habits
Mistakes that cost you points in solo cups, each one explained in its channel together with what to do instead.
- Edge in Zone 4: You usually stay edge for the rest of the game, so go deep early. Playing zone
- Shooting instead of rotating: From Zone 5 on, rotate when you can instead of shooting at players who rotate, unless you are short on mats or heals. Playing zone
- Walking through POIs: In the midgame you go around them, unless you need a vending or a reloot or you are outstorm. Rotations
- Three Shockwaves in the midgame: If they are your rotation item, go to a vending, reloot or take a fight instead of playing the whole game with three. Rotations
- Pushing without entry: Hit him first, because without it the fight starts badly, and taking 150 on top loses it unless you get the kill. Entry and boxfights
- Half-committed plays: On a rotation, go all-in on one player or leave it, instead of shooting at everyone and getting shot from every side. Entry and boxfights
- Third partying too early: Wait until only one player is left, because if you go in while both are still fighting, they box up and nothing happens. Third party
- Hunting kills in the endgame: Zone first, then a layer of your own, then kills, or you die in a bad spot without a layer. Endgame
- Jumping a first moving refresh too low: With 150 to 170 HP you peek, get your entry and wait instead of jumping in. Refresh
- Changing your plan mid cup: Keep your spot, loot route and playstyle after a bad game, or you end up with no plan at all. In the cup
